call for submissions - 3 poemic anthologies

after some years, perhaps it's time to look back, and to see what poemics we could create now. some projects were made, some authors have appeared, I've talked to several people about poemics (and even some scientific papers about poemics were written).

allow me to invite you to participate in three project - three anthologies, that is:

Project One: comic scripts in frames. please send files (suitable for printing), with frames that look like comic frames - only inside place parts of a comic script. do not have to be authentic scenarios of completed comics. do what you want, I mean describe some action, give instructions for the nonexistent drawer, experiment with the frames.

Second project: encrypted poemics. do some drawings and texts, make them enigmatic, hide something. use asemic writing, use unreadable fonts, blurred letters, overlapping on one another or find some other way to make it a secret code.

Project Three: changing old poems poemically. take a line of a text (with no copyrights, or your own text) - but in that case make it feel that old - and cut it into pieces. improve, change elements. create a poemics on the basis of this text. you can use speech balloons, do something graphically to the text, put it in some comic frames.

the anthologies will be black and white, published on the internet. if you would like to take part, please send works (more or less A4 or legal format, vertical) to pszren@wp.pl before the end of December 2013.

Lucie Haškovcová

there is a big chance that Lucie Haškovcová, who works in City Gallery Prague - www.ghmp.cz, will take part in the poemic strip anthology.

and this is what she wrote to me (among other things) about her thesis (Czech Filology):

The main aim of this thesis, which name is Forms and Faces of the Czech visual poetry and lettrism, is trying to make the typology of the czech visual poetry and the czech lettrism. The main idea of the visual poetry is a concentration on the formal level of the poem. All of authors of lettrism were also interested in working with letters. All of them are concentrated on the interaction between the poetry and the painting, between pictures and words. The borders of this art arenât exect. There are a lot of crossings (tending to the acoustic poetry, concrete poetry, scriptual painting, graffiti, calligraphy, college, assemblage and so on...).

Jim Andrews

if you have a moment, please take a look at this site: http://vispo.com/dbcinema/loven. I found it really interesting, and lots of works have some elements that make them close to poemics. probably we could simply call them poemics, when elements of both comics and poetry are present.

the author of these is Jim Andrews. I've invited him to the poemic strip anthology, and he agreed to take part in the project. it would be really wonderful!

poemic strip anthology

wow, thing've been happening round here! we got comments, Satu began creating poemics (I've added the "links" section), Dick Whyte expressed his interest in the idea, I think it's time to gather us around a particular goal, which would be the poemic strip anthology :)

I told some of you already about the concept of publishing a small zine-type of a brochure and distributing it around (the authors would get copies and they would give it to nice and smart people around them :) . we could also promote the anthology - if it happens to be interesting - in other media or anyway we want and can). as the brochure (A5 size, and the strips should go horizontally) will be placed on the net in .pdf file, so anyone can print it out and have a copy as well.

the anthology is planned to be black-and-white, but if someone can print it in colour, it's even better. and the .pdf file can be helpful in showing the works in full colour.

the deadline is the end of december 2009. is that ok? language of the anthology: english (but if you write concrete poetry or if you use letters the way where natural language is less important - it's also fine). please send the poemics to the anthology to pszren(at)wp(dot)pl as files that can be printed. please sign every poemic (there will be no "contents" section) and include a short info about yourself. also please give me your address in the email, so that I can send you the brochure.

this is not a professional project, so don't expect too much. which doesn't mean we should keep standards low.
